थोतलाकोंडा स्तुपाची पावसामुळे पडझड
ऑक्टोबर संपत आला तरी पावसाची दररोज हजेरी लावणे चालू आहे. त्यातच चक्रीवादळामुळे मागील चोवीस तासात झालेल्या मुसळधार पावसामुळे विशाखापट्टणम येथील विझाग स्थळी असलेला दोन हजार वर्षांपूर्वीचा जुना स्तुप नुकताच ढासळला.
हा स्तुप विशाखापट्टम येथील भामिली बीच जवळ आहे. हे एक पुरातन बौद्धस्थळ असून ते पुरातत्व खाते, आंध्रप्रदेश यांच्या अधिपत्याखाली आहे. या अगोदरही हा स्तूप ढासळला होता आणि २०१५ मध्ये त्याची दुरुस्ती करण्यात आली होती. आता या स्तूपाच्या दुरुस्तीसाठी अभियंता रवाना झाले आहेत असे पुरातत्त्व खात्याचे संचालक राव यांनी सांगितले. थोतलाकोंड्याचा हा स्तुप पहिल्यांदा १९७६ साली शोधला गेला. इथे उत्खनन केले तेव्हा थेरवादी बौद्ध परंपरेचा विहार सापडला होता.
Indian National Trust for Act and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) ही एक संस्था असून ती पुरातन स्थळांची काळजी घेते. आंध्रप्रदेश सरकारने थोतलाकोंडा येथे जेव्हा अँपी थिएटर, स्वच्छतागृहे, विश्रामगृहे बांधण्याचे ठरविले तेव्हा या संस्थेने हरकत घेतली. प्रकरण न्यायालयात गेले. न्यायालयाने सांगितले की या जागेवर बांधकाम करण्यात येऊ नये. घटनेच्या ४९ कलमाच्या तरतुदीनुसार पुरातन बौद्ध स्थळे ही महत्वाची राष्ट्रीय संपत्ती व वारसा असून त्याची पुनर्रचना करणे, नुकसान पोहोचविणे, तोडणे अथवा फोडणे यास प्रतिबंध करण्यात आला आहे. तसेच भाग ५१ ए(फ) नुसार सर्व पुरातन बौद्ध स्थळे सरकारने जतन करणे आवश्यक असल्याचे म्हटले आहे.
तरी लवकरच थोतलाकोंडा स्तुपाची दुरुस्ती होऊन तो पुन्हा पर्यटकांना खुला होईल अशी आशा करुया.
