पटना से 100 किमी उत्तर में पहाड़ियों और घने जंगलों के बीच बसा राजगीर एक प्रसिद्ध बौद्ध तीर्थस्थल के रूप में दुनियाभर में
लोकप्रिय है।
बिहार का एक छोटा-सा शहर है राजगीर, जो कि नालंदा जिले में स्थित है।
बुद्ध न सिर्फ कई वर्षो तक यहां ठहरे थे, बल्कि कई महत्वपूर्ण उपदेश भी राजगीर की धरती पर दिए थे।
बुद्ध के उपदेशों को यहीं लिपिबद्ध किया गया गया था और पहली बौद्ध संगीति भी यहीं हुई थी।
पांचवीं सदी में भारत की यात्रा पर आए चीनी तीर्थ यात्री फाहयान ने अपने यात्रा वृतांत में लिखा था कि राजगीर की पहाड़ियों के बाहरी हिस्से में राजगृह नगर का निर्माण बिम्बिसार के पुत्र आजातशत्रु ने ही करवाया था ।
