गणराज्य अधिष्ठानचे अध्यक्ष प्रा डॉ जी के डोंगरगावकर आणि सरचिटणीस ज्येष्ठ पत्रकार दिवाकर शेजवळ यांनी एका पत्रकाद्वारे आवाहन केले आहे.

मुंबई, दि 5 मार्च: देशात होऊ घातलेल्या जनगणनेत धर्म आणि अनुसूचित जातींची अचूक लोकसंख्या नोंदली जाण्याच्या मुद्यावरून बौद्ध समाजात निरनिराळ्या मतप्रवाहांमुळे संभ्रम आणि गोंधळाचे वातावरण वाढीस लागले आहे. ते लक्षात घेता भारतीय बौद्ध महासभेने बौद्ध समाजाला योग्य ते मार्गदर्शन तातडीने करावे, असे आवाहन गणराज्य अधिष्ठानचे अध्यक्ष प्रा डॉ जी के डोंगरगावकर आणि सरचिटणीस ज्येष्ठ पत्रकार दिवाकर शेजवळ यांनी एका पत्रकाद्वारे केले आहे.
“व्ही पी सिंग सरकारने केंद्रात दिलेल्या सवलतींचा लाभ घ्यायचा की त्या सवलतींचा त्याग करायचा?”
“अनुसूचित जाती अत्त्याचार प्रतिबंधक कायद्याचे लाभलेले सुरक्षा कवच कायम राखायचे की गमवायचे?”
“संविधानिक अधिकार म्हणून अनुसूचित जातींना लोकसंख्येच्या प्रमाणात मिळणारे हक्काचे राजकीय प्रतिनिधित्व आणि विशेष घटक योजनेखाली अर्थसंकल्पात तरतूद करण्यात येणाऱ्या निधीचा विकासासाठी लाभ घ्यायचा की त्यावर पाणी सोडायचे?”
असे प्रश्न बौद्ध समाजापुढे जनगणनेनिमित्त उभे ठाकले आहेत, असे त्या पत्रकात नमूद केले आहे.
बौद्ध समाजाला येत्या जनगणनेत ‘बौद्ध’ म्हणूनच आपली धार्मिक ओळख अमिट राखतांनाच वरील प्रश्नांवर साधक बाधक विचार करून दुरदर्शीपणे व्यापक समाज हितासाठी योग्य तो निर्णय घ्यावा लागणार आहे. त्या दृष्टीने बौद्ध महासभेसारख्या धार्मिक संघटनांवर मोठी जबाबदारी येऊन पडली आहे, असे डॉ डोंगरगावकर आणि शेजवळ यांनी म्हटले आहे.
आजघडीला आंबेडकरवादी पक्षाचा राज्यात एकसुद्धा आमदार,खासदार नाही.बौद्ध समाजाच्या हिताचा एखादा कायदा करण्यासाठी वा सध्याच्या कायद्यात बदल करणाऱ्या घटना दुरुस्तीसाठी संसद आणि विधिमंडळात आपले संख्याबळ शून्य आहे. त्यामुळे तात्काळ मंजूर न होणाऱ्या मागण्यांसाठी दशको न दशके चालणारे लढे समाजावर लादून जनगणनेतील उद्दिष्टापासून फारकत घेणे परवडणारे नाही, असा इशाराही गणराज्य अधिष्ठानने दिला आहे.

केंद्र सरकारकडील धर्माच्या यादीत हिंदू, इस्लाम, शीख, ख्रिश्चन, बौद्ध, जैन हे सहाच धर्म आहेत. त्यापेक्षा वेगळा धर्म सांगणाऱ्या नागरिकांची नोंद ‘इतर’ या वर्गात केली जाते. त्यामुळे बौद्धांनी आपला धर्म नवबौद्ध असा सांगून जनगणनेत बेदखल होऊ नये, असे आवाहन डॉ डोंगरगावकर -अध्यक्ष आणि दिवाकर शेजवळ -सरचिटणीस यांनी पत्रकाच्या शेवटी केले आहे.
