शालेय अभ्यासक्रमात आम्हाला भारत हा कृषिप्रधान देश आहे. असे सांगतात. परंतु प्रत्यक्ष व्यवहारात आम्हाला भारत देश सावकारांचा, बॅंकांचा, भांडवलदारांचा आणि जातिव्यवस्थेचा जाणवतो. भारताच्या अर्थव्यवस्थेचा कणा असलेल्या कृषीची सेवा करणारा शेतकरी नौकर होत आहे. तर व्यापारी आणि भांडवलदार ,सावकार आणि बॅंका मालक होत आहेत. शेतकऱ्यांना नौकर बनवून आत्महत्या करण्यास बाध्य करुन भांडवलदारांना मालक करणारी संस्था आहे सरकार .
एकेकाळी जगाला पोषणारा, मोकळ्या हातांनी भरभरुन देणाऱ्या शेतकऱ्यांवर आज सरकारने मागण्याची वेळ आणली आहे. निवडणूकीतील ज्या शेतकऱ्यांच्या मतांमुळे जे आज दिल्लीच्या तख्तावर बसले आहेत. तेच लोक शेतकऱ्यांनी दिल्लीत येवू नये म्हणून शेतकऱ्यांविरूद्ध षडयंत्र रचत आहेत. संकटांना कंटाळून महाराष्ट्रातील शेतकरी आत्महत्या करत आहेत तर उत्तर भारतातील शेतकरी महात्मा फुलेंनी दिलेला आसूड सरकारवर ओढत आहे. ज्या महाराष्ट्रात महात्मा फुले जन्मले त्याच महाराष्ट्रातील शेतकऱ्यांनी महात्मा फुलेंचा आसूड समजू नये, ही शोकांतिका आहे.
याप्रसंगी आठवतात ते गाडगेबाबा. कसलेही अक्षरी शिक्षण घेतलं नसतांना सुद्धा महात्मा फुलेंनी दिलेला आसुड हातात घेवून सावकारास सळो की पळो करुन सोडले होते. म्हणून मित्रांनो आम्ही आमचे महामानव वाचून, त्यातून प्रेरणा घेणे आवश्यक आहे.
गाडगेबाबांचे वडील झिंगराजीच्या मृत्यू नंतर आई सखुबाई व गाडगेबाबा मामा चंद्रभान यांच्याकडे रहायला गेले. गाडगेबाबा मामाला शेतीच्या कामात मदत करू लागले. पुढे तर मामाचा शेती व्यवसाय गाडगेबाबाच सांभाळू लागले. मामाच्या जवाबदाऱ्या गाडगेबाबा ने स्वतःच्या खांद्यावर घेतल्यामुळे मामाने मिळालेल्या वेळेचा गैरफायदा घेत दारुच्या आहारी गेला व व्यसन पूर्ण करण्यासाठी सावकाराचे कर्ज घेऊ लागला.
शेवटी सावकारी पाश गळ्याभोवती वाढला व सावकाराकडे जमीन गहाण ठेवावी लागली. व्यसनापायी मामा चंद्रभानचा मृत्यू झाला. गाडगेबाबांनी रात्रंदिन शेतात कष्ट करून सावकाराचे कर्ज फेडले, परंतु सावकार कर्ज बाकी आहे, म्हणून पुन्हा पुन्हा पैसे मागू लागला. तेव्हा बाबांनी सावकाराला खडसावले, “आधी मला समदा व्यवहार दाखव नं मग कर्ज माग.” तेव्हा सावकार चिडला व बाबांचे शेत ताब्यात घेण्याची धमकी दिली. जेव्हा सावकार बाबांचे शेत घ्यायला आला तेव्हा गाडगेबाबांने सावकाराला दम दिला, “तुम्हाला पोरांबाळांची आस असेल तरच पुढे पाऊल टाका, मी झालो आहे जिवावर उदार.” तरि सुद्धा सावकार माघार घेईना, तेव्हा बाबाने सावकाराला व त्याच्या नौकरांना झोडपून काढले. ही बातमी साऱ्या पंचक्रोशीत पसरताच, सावकाराच्या जुलमाला- अन्यायाला असं अडवून तुडवता येतो. अशी चर्चा सुरू होवून, एक नवा पायंड्याची शिकवण गाडगेबाबांनी शेतकऱ्यांना दिली. परंतु आजचा शेतकरी सावकारांच्या व बॅंकांच्या कर्जा पायी आत्महत्या करित आहे.
आत्महत्या करणाऱ्या शेतकऱ्यांनी गाडगेबाबांच्या जीवनातील या प्रसंगातून बोध घ्यावे. निराश होवून आत्महत्या करण्यापेक्षा, गरज आहे शेतकऱ्यांनी पुन्हा गाडगेबाबांप्रमाणे महात्मा फुलेंचा आसूड हाती घेण्याची. तेव्हाच मायबाप सरकार आमच्या आंदोलनाची दखल घेऊन आम्हाला न्याय देवून शेतकरी विरोधी कायदे रद्द करेल.
