भारताचे संविधान (भारताची राज्यघटना) हा भारताचा सर्वोच्च कायदा व पायाभूत कायदा (legal basis) आहे. भारतीय संविधानावर विविध पाश्चात्त्य संविधानांचा प्रभाव आहे. 26 नोव्हेंबर 1949 रोजी राज्यघटनेचा स्वीकार केला जानेवारी २६ जानवारी १९५० पासून भारताची राज्यघटना अंमलात आली. राज्यघटना इंग्रजी भाषेत असून हिची हिंदी भाषेत प्रतही कायदेशीरदृष्ट्या ग्राह्य आहे .महामानव बाबासाहेब तथा बाबासाहेब डॉक्टर बी.आर.आंबेडकर हे भारताच्या संविधानाचे शिल्पकार आहेत.
१९५० साली अमलात आलेले भारतीय संविधान मुख्यत्वे १९३५च्या भारत सरकार कायद्यावर (Government of India Act of 1935) वर आधारित आहे. १९३५सालच्या या कायद्यान्वये भारताच्या अंतर्गत स्वशासनाचा पाया घातला गेला होता. ब्रिटिश पंतप्रधान क्लेमंट अँटली यांच्या शिष्टमंडळाच्या स्वतंत्र भारताच्या संविधानाची निर्मिती करण्यासाठी एका मसुदा समितीच्या स्थापनेविषयीच्या कल्पनेस भारतीय स्वातंत्र्य लढ्यातील नेत्यांनी सहमती दर्शविली होती. १९४६च्या उन्हा़ळ्यात या समितीची स्थापना झाली व तिची पहिली बैठक डिसेंबर १९४६ रोजी सच्चीतनंद सिंन्न्हा यांच्या अध्यक्षतेखाली नवी दिल्ली येथील संविधान सभागृह मध्ये पार पडली कि, जे आज सेंट्रल हॉल या नावाने परिचित आहे.पहिल्या बैठकीला ९ महिलांसह एकूण २०७ सदस्य उपस्थिती होते .१५ ऑगस्ट १९४७ रोजी भारतास स्वातंत्र्य मिळाल्यावर अल्पकाळ या समितीने भारताचे प्रतिनिधी रूपात काम केले होते.
२९ ऑगस्ट १९४७ रोजी डॉ. बाबासाहेब आंबेडकर यांच्या नेतृत्वाखाली मसूदा समिती स्थापन झाली. अनेक बैठकांनंतर या समितीने सादर केलेला अंतिम मसुदा आज २६ नोव्हेंबर १९४९ रोजी स्वीकारला गेला. यामुळे २६ नोव्हेंबर हा दिवस “भारतीय संविधान दिन” म्हणून साजरा केला जातो.
नागरिकत्व ,सार्वजनिक निवडणुका व अंतरिम संसदेविषयीचे आणि इतर काही तात्पुरत्या बाबी तत्काळ लागू झाल्या. संविधान संपूर्ण रूपाने २६ जानेवारी १९५० रोजी लागू झाले. त्यामुळे २६ जानेवारी हा दिवस “भारतीय प्रजासत्ताक दिन” म्हणून साजरा केला जातो.
