चटका लावणारे तीन मृत्यू!

‘पँथर’ भाई संगारे यांनी महाड येथे ओढवून घेतलेल्या दुर्दैवी अपघाती मृत्यूच्या दुःखद घटनेला दोन दशके उलटून गेली आहेत। त्यांचा आज 21 वा स्मृती दिन।
दलित पँथरच्या चळवळीतील राजा ढाले, नामदेव ढसाळ, भाई संगारे, प्रा अरुण कांबळे, मनोहर अंकुश, टी एम कांबळे, एस एम प्रधान, रमेश इंगळे,सि रा जाधव यांच्यासारखे अनेक मोहरे आता काळाच्या पडद्याआड गेले आहेत। मानवाच्या जीवनात वार्धक्य,व्याधी आणि मृत्यू अटळ आहे। त्याचा शोक कितीही अनिवार असला तरी त्याची अनिवार्यता स्वीकारावीच लागते। पण मनोहर अंकुश, भाई संगारे आणि प्रा अरुण कांबळे यांचे मृत्यू हे अकाली,
अपघाती आणि काळजाला चटका बसवणारे ठरले
पँथर मनोहर अंकुश हे आंबेडकरी चळवळीत काँग्रेस रिपब्लिकन युतीचा दुसरा अध्याय सुरू होत असताना मुंबईतील एका अपघातात गेले। तगडे व्यक्तिमत्व असलेल्या या कवी नेत्याचे वक्तृत्व प्रभावी होते। ‘ वस्तीतल्या मुलांचे बंड पाहिले मी ‘ ही त्यांची लोकप्रिय कविता अनेक पँथर्सच्या ओठांवर त्या काळात असायची। त्यांचे अनेक भाषांवर प्रभुत्व होते। नौदलाची नोकरी गमावून त्यांनी पँथर्सच्या उद्रेकात उडी घेतली होती। अंकुश यांच्यासारखा नेता प्रस्थापित पक्षात असता तर राष्ट्रीय पातळीवर चमकला असता। पण पँथरला सत्तेचे दिवस दिसण्याआधीच अंकुश हे काळाच्या पडद्याआड गेले। त्यानंतर दशकभराने भाई संगारे यांनी महाड येथे एका धर्म ग्रंथाचे दहन करतांना मृत्यू ओढवून घेतला। भाईंपाठोपाठ प्रा अरुण कांबळे हे हैदराबाद येथे एका कार्यक्रमाला गेले असता बुद्धाचा महाकाय पुतळा असलेल्या प्रसिद्ध हुसेन सागरात त्यांचे कलेवर सापडले होते।
1990 सालात पंतप्रधान व्ही पी सिंग यांच्या केंद्रातील जनता दलाच्या सरकारने डॉ बाबासाहेब आंबेडकर यांना भारतरत्न, संसदेत बाबासाहेबांचे तैलचित्र, शताब्दीनिमित नाणे, ऍड प्रकाश आंबेडकर यांच्या रूपाने बाबासाहेबांच्या घराण्याला राज्यसभा सदस्यत्वाचा मान, मंडल आयोग शिफारशींची अंमलबजावणी असे अनेक स्तुत्य निर्णय घेतले होते। केंद्रात ते सत्तांतर व्ही पी सिंग यांनी घडवण्यापूर्वीच पँथर प्रा अरुण कांबळे हे जनता दलात राष्ट्रीय सरचिटणीस पदावर स्थिरावले होते। पण व्ही पी सिंग यांचे सरकार पाडण्यात आल्यानंतर जनता दलाच्याही चिरफळ्या उडाल्या। त्यानंतर सूर न गवसल्याने कांबळे यांच्या वाट्याला राजकीय विजनवास आणि नैराश्य आले होते।
पण मनोहर अंकुश, भाई संगारे आणि प्रा अरुण कांबळे यांचाही पिंड लक्षात घेता ते आता ह्यात असते तर आजच्या राजकारणात त्यांचे स्थान कुठे असते?
त्यांना कुठल्या प्रवाहात वाव मिळाला असता ? राजकीय अपरिहार्यतेशी मिळते जुळते घेण्याची लवचिकता त्यांच्या रक्तात होती काय? ते कुठे मॅच झाले असते?
भाई संगारे यांनी महाड येथे स्वतंत्रपणे घेतलेला तो कार्यक्रम म्हणजे रिपब्लिकन राजकारणात स्पेस शोधण्यासाठीची धडपड होती। अन तीच त्यांच्या जीवावर बेतली होती। तशा प्रक्षोभक कार्यक्रमापासून भाईंना कोणी तरी परावृत्त करण्याची गरज होती। ते काम कोणी न केल्यामुळे त्यांच्यासारखा मोहरा आंबेडकरी चळवळीला गमवावा लागला। हीच गोष्ट मी भाईंच्या अंत्ययात्रेच्या दिवशीच दैनिक ‘ सामना’ मध्ये ‘ भाई, तू आधी का सांगितलं नाहीस ?’ हा लेख लिहून सांगितली होती।
1972 च्या पँथरच्या कालखंडात राजा ढाले यांनी शिवाजी पार्कवर एका धर्म ग्रंथाच्या दहनाचा कार्यक्रम केला होताच। त्यानंतर तब्बल 27 वर्षांनी त्याचीच महाड येथे पुनरावृत्ती करण्यात काय नाविन्य होते? त्यामुळे परधर्मीयांत रोष आणि आंबेडकरी चळवळीविषयी द्वेष निर्माण करणाऱ्या कार्यक्रमात भाईंनी हकनाक आपली आहुती दिली, असे म्हटले तर वावगे ठरू नये।
