तामिळनाडूचे माजी मुख्यमंत्री आणि द्रमुकचे एम. करुणानिधी यांचे मंगळवारी चेन्नईत कावेरी रुग्णालयात आजाराने निधन झाले. “अत्यंत कष्टाने डॉक्टरांनी प्रिय क्लाइग्नर डॉ. एम करुणानिधी यांचे निधन 07.08.2018 06.10 वाजता निधन झाल्याचे जाहीर केले. आमच्या डॉक्टरांच्या व परिचारकांच्या संघटनेच्या संभाव्य प्रयत्नांमुळे त्याना वाचविण्याच्या शर्तीच्या प्रयत्नातही ते प्रतिसाद देत नाहीत, “असे हॉस्पिटलने आपल्या वैद्यकीय बुलेटिनमध्ये म्हटले आहे.
हॉस्पिटलने पुढे सांगितले की, “आम्ही भारतातील सर्वात मोठ्या नेत्यांच्या झालेल्या निधनाबद्दल गंभीरपणे शोक व्यक्त करत आहोत .
करुणानिधीच्या गोपाळपुरमच्या निवासस्थानावर एक उदासीनता आली आहे. कावेरी रुग्णालयाच्या एका वक्तव्यातुन स्पष्ट करण्यात आले की द्रमुकचे कार्यकर्ते भावनिक झाले होते.
करुणानिधीचा मृतदेह त्याच्या गोपाळपुरम येथील निवासस्थानी ठेवण्यात येणार आहे. तेथून सकाळी 1 च्या सुमारास राजजी हॉलला त्याच्या कन्या कनिमोझीच्या सीआयटी कॉलनी निवासस्थानी नेण्यात येणार असून पंतप्रधान नरेंद्र मोदी, राहुल गांधी, ममता बॅनर्जी, के. चंद्रशेखर राव, अरविंद केजरीवाल आणि पिनराययी विजयन यांच्या तिव्र दुःख व्यक्त केले आहे .
करुणानिधी हे वयाच्या 94 वर्षी निधन पावले .जगभरातून शोक व्यक्त होत असून जगभरातील त्याचे अनुयायी दुःख व्यक्त करत आहेत.
पाचवेळा तामिळनाडूचे मुख्यमंत्रिपद भुषवणारे द्रमुक पक्षाचे सर्वेसर्वा एम.करुणानिधी यांच्या निधनाने तामिळनाडूच्या राजकारणातील एक मातब्बर नेतृत्व काळाच्या पडद्याआड गेलं आहे. दरम्यान, तामिळनाडूत 5 दिवसांचा शासकीय दुखवटा पाळला जाणार असून उद्या (बुधवार) राज्यात सुट्टी जाहीर करण्यात आली आहे.
